South Carolina recruiting: 4-star T Dylan Wonnum commits

Four-star offensive tackle Dylan Wonnum (Tucker, Ga.) is the latest commitment to the 2018 South Carolina recruiting class.

Wonnum, an Under Armour All-American, announced his pledge to South Carolina on Saturday night over Auburn, LSU and Tennessee. He’s the first 2018 prospect to commit to the Gamecocks since the December signing period.

Two 2019 prospects committed on Friday (4-star wide receiver Jamario Holley) and Saturday (3-star offensive guard Vincent Murphy). According to the 247Sports composite, Wonnum is the No. 13 offensive tackle and No. 178 overall prospect in the Class of 2018.

When he arrives to South Carolina later this year, he’ll join his older brother, D.J., who led the Gamecocks in sacks as a sophomore.

The Gamecocks are set to add the younger Wonnum (6-5, 279) to an offensive line haul that also includes Hank Manos, Wyatt Campbell, Maxwell Iyama and Jovaughn Gwyn, all of whom signed in December. Gwyn, like Wonnum, is also a 4-star prospect. And, also like Wonnum, he won’t enroll at South Carolina until the summer.

Wonnum began his high school career at Stephenson (Stone Mountain, Ga.) before transferring to Tucker High School, which is also home to 4-star wide receiver Josh Vann, the Gamecocks top-rated signee in December.

Currently, Vann (146) is the only member of that class who’s ranked higher than Wonnum. If defensive tackle Rick Sandidge (141) signs with South Carolina on Wednesday, Wonnum will be third-highest.

Sandidge and 3-star defensive end John Mincey are the only two non-committed prospects remaining for the Gamecocks. Like Sandidge, Mincey will reveal his decision on National Signing Day.
